Iron Dog Training Challenge – Nose Work

6 WEEK COURSE

Ready to get creative? Want to think outside the box (WHAT BOX!?) and have some summer fun? Time for the Iron Dog Training Challenge, nose work style! Each week a new challenge will be revealed. It will be a skill applied to an element. How creative can your hide get? How much thought do you place into your training, time to show it off! This class is appropriate for all dogs that are doing multiple hides, as some weeks will include multiple hide placements.

Odor Confidence

Do you have a dog that passes by odor, even after acknowledging it? Do you see your dog’s alert behavior become weaker and less obvious in a trial or when training in a new area? Does your dog spend a lot of time looking at you while searching, hoping that you’ll help them in the search? All of these issues are Odor Confidence issues. Your dog may recognize odor but struggle to have the confidence to alert you. This 4 week class will address the reasons for this and help you and your dog develop the skills needed to succeed in even challenging environments. It’s a great course for a dog that has slowed down in searching, a less experienced dog that needs more confidence in training and a team that wants to make sure their training makes them rock solid for upcoming trials.

Simek Nose Work – Get Clarity!

4 Week Course

When you are training nose work, you are in a true partnership sport. You and your dog need each other to be successful! You each have things the other wants, you want to know where the hide is and your dog wants to find it and get reinforcement, a win/win for everyone! So, why do things go wrong? Do you find that the environment can over ride your dogs desire to find a hide? Do you sometimes see your dog work slowly or with a lack of confidence? Does your dog sometimes find hides and not stay there with enthusiasm, or even leave them? Do you find your dog fringing or false alerting? Do you feel that sometimes you can’t trust your dog on containers, that they may hit on a distractor?

Socialization 101

4 WEEK COURSE

One of the hardest things for dog owners to do is properly socialize their dogs! It’s a careful balance between exposing your dog to the things that they will encounter in daily life and as a performance dog, and making sure to not overwhelm them. This class is designed to cover all aspects of socialization ranging from the needs of those not planning to do dog sports to people who want to compete in multiple venues. This course is not aimed at a specific sport, but rather provides an outline that can be customized for all participants. In this class we focus on how to introduce dogs to people and environments without magnetizing them and teaching them how to work in distracting areas.

Elite Treats

4 week course

Elite searches are fun and fast and furious! The key to having an elite dog is training a dog that can continue to search, and look outside the “box” into all areas for odor, they are not patterned trained, but odor obedient. To say that we have fun doing Elite searches is an understatement. This class is for every level of dog that is on multiple odors.

Rock Solid Indications

4 Week Course

Every Nose Work trainer knows that they have to have some indication from their dog that they have found source.  The beautiful thing is that the dog gets to decide what that indication is, and the trainer gets to reinforce it.  So, why do dogs walk right by hides?  Or stop minimally at a hide, just enough time to make the handler think it might be a hide and then move on? How can a handler help their dog understand that insisting on a hide is what they would like in a trial?  Guess who has all the say so in this case, yes, you the handler!  Rock solid indications are what we are working on this class.

Hide Placement Clinic

4 Week Course

Want to improve your dog’s nose work skill?  Time to improve your hide placement!  Before every training session you should have a plan on how this session, and the placement of the hides will increase your dog’s nose work skill.  Thoughtful sessions that are set up for a win for the dog make for happy dogs and happy handlers.  There is nothing worse than setting up hides that are too difficult, discouraging, or worse, unsourceable.  This is the class we take a look at training plans and how to get from where you are now in your training to where you want to be.

Simek Foundation Nosework

Nosework isn’t rocket science, and it’s easy to enjoy some early success. But to really rock this sport, learning a systematic approach is key. So we’ll start at the beginning, learning how to properly make a hide and handle odor, get intros right, and build value at the source. We’ll progress to leaning discrimination, indication, and the role of extinction. Then it’s time to push by adding distraction, proofing, and adding search cues. All on the path to begin getting your dog ready for his ORT and NW1 titles.
